The Galician Tourism Strategy 2030: A commitment to authentic and sustainable tourism
Last Friday, September 27, we attended the presentation in Ferrol of the new Galicia 2030 Tourism Strategy, a roadmap for the next six years prepared by the Xunta de Galicia in collaboration with the Galician Tourism Cluster. This strategy has as its main objective to promote authentic and sustainable tourism, with hospitality as one of the fundamental pillars, and which benefits the entire Galician territory. It includes an investment of more than 1,000 million euros.
The process of creating this strategy started from a broad diagnosis, in which more than 1,000 professionals from the sector participated through various working groups. Its priority objectives include the promotion of sustainable tourism, growth in areas where it is most needed, and a clear commitment to tourism in rural and coastal areas, thus promoting deseasonalized and international tourism that fosters harmonious coexistence with local communities.
The Galicia 2030 Tourism Strategy is structured around 64 measures and 8 main missions, which include:
- Promote Galicia as an authentic and differentiated destination.
- Commit to integral sustainability, both at an environmental and social level.
- Promote the promotion, marketing, deseasonalization and internationalization of the destination.
- Improve profitability and business competitiveness in the sector.
- Encourage mobility, tourist connectivity and territorial rebalancing.
- Strengthen the governance of the destination through efficient management.
- Incorporate tourism intelligence and encourage digital transformation.
- Bet on human capital and the retention of talent in the tourism sector.
Among the measures, the investment of a third stands out of the budget in actions linked to environmental and social sustainability, in order to foster a positive and beneficial relationship between residents and tourists. Likewise, the use of sustainable means of transport, such as cycling or walking routes will be promoted, and electric mobility will be supported to connect major transport hubs with the main tourist resources.
In addition, key sectors such as thermal spas, wine and food tourism and congress tourism will continue to be promoted, reinforcing the attractiveness of Galicia at a national and international level. Another key point of this strategy is the relevance that Xacobeo 2027 will have, which is expected to be a central event in the development of tourism in the coming years, with the aim of making it a success again.
In short, theGalicia Tourism Strategy 2030 seeks to strengthen Galicia’s positioning as a sustainable and authentic tourist destination, generating wealth throughout the territory and focusing on hospitality as one of Galicia’s hallmarks.
